對華人而言，使用某些英文單字時會感到些許困擾，部分原因是這些單字的使用邏輯與中文稍有出入，閱讀理解時都會有障礙，遑論要能正確運用於書信寫作。版主今天要講解的單字是 “feature”，它可作為名詞與動詞。詳細說明如下：

◎ 名詞

1.  feature = one of the named part of the face (面部的一部份，如眼耳鼻等有專門名稱的部位)

** His eyes are his most striking feature. (他容貌最突出的部分就是雙眼。)

** beautify the features (美容)

 

2. features  = face viewed as a whole (整體容貌)

** a woman of delicate features (容貌秀氣的女子)

** I could not distinguish the suspect’s features because of the poor light. (由於光線昏暗，我看不清嫌犯的長相。)

 

3.  feature = distinctive characteristic (特色，特徵，特點)

** They have one common feature. (他們有一個共同的特點。)

 

4. feature = function 功能

** Adobe Illustrator software is a comprehensive vector graphics environment with multiple arrboards that invite you to explore more efficient ways to design. Get the latest features to enhance your productivity.
(Adobe Illustrator 是完整的向量圖環境，提供多種 artboard (藝術面板) 供您去探索如何以更有效的方式進行設計。請取得最新功能來提昇您的生產力。)

 

 5. featue = (in newspapers, television) special or prominent aritcle or programme about sth/sb (報紙或新聞的特寫或專題報導)

**This magazine will be running a special feature on education next week.
(這本雜誌下週會刊登一篇關於教育的專題報導。)

 

 

◎ 動詞

1.  feature = give a prominent part to sb/sth (給予某人顯著地位，由某人擔任主角)

** This film features Jackie Chan, who is known for using improvised weapons and innovate stunts. 
(這部電影的主角是成龍。成龍以隨機使用身旁武器與創意的特技動作而聞名。) - 這項用法很常見，請網友多注意。

** Instead of bookshelves, our living room featured a piano, a baby grand.
(我們的客廳沒有書櫃，反而擺一台鋼琴，那種小型的平式鋼琴。) - 這項用法很常見，請網友多注意。

2. feature = 以… 為噱頭或號召
** The 10th annual Trade Show, featuring the most advanced office machines, will be held in Taipei next month.
(第十屆商品展示會將於下個月於台北舉行，這次主要展示最先進的辦公器材。)

 

3. feature = have an important part in sth (起重要的作用)

** Does a new job feature in your future plans?
(新工作在你未來的計畫中扮演很重要的角色嗎？)
