有些網站跟版主一樣，抱持經世濟民的心胸，也發表短文批評內容不恰當的台北捷運英文。今天版主逛網路時，碰巧就遇到這麼一個網站，該網站名為「西湖皇家學院部落格」。版主本著好奇之心，乃細讀網站內容，不讀還好，一讀之下不禁全身冒冷汗。原因為何，請網友參看下面轉貼的內容。

這個句子看似沒有問題, 可是再仔細想東西不會自己主動掉下,一定是人把它丟掉或被掉落二種情形,這句顯然是第二種,所以此句應改為

If  your belongings is fallen onto the track, please call the station staff to retrieve it for you.

ps: belongings 是指財物為不可數noun,故verb uses singual verb,』was』『them 』 change to 『it』.

首先，該網站提出的邏輯很好，東西不會自動掉落軌道，因此國外的捷運局會使用其他說法來表達類似觀念。只可惜，該網站主事者的英文程度太差，隨後提出的解說一蹋糊塗，著實會誤導英文初學者。版主詳細說明如下：

◎ “belonging” 若指「財物/財產 」，非但不是不可數，而是一定要為複數，只有 “belongings”，沒有 “belonging” 的用法。”If your belongings is…” 根本錯得離譜。

Your belongings are the goods kept by you or your immediate family for household or personal use.

(正確例句)
Airport security: your belongings are safer than ever - and the reason may surprise you.

 

◎ “fall” 為不及物動詞，根本沒有 “is fallen” 這種用法，這種在天方夜譚才看得到的英文，根本是該網站瞎掰的！

(正確例句)
The rain was falling steadily. 

(正確例句)
He fell into the river.

這句話正確的寫法應該如下：
* If you drop something on the trackway, please contact the Station Agent for help. (最精簡的版本)

* If you drop your belongings on the trackway, do not attempt to retrieve them. Please contact the Station Agent for help.

* If you drop something on the trackway, please contact the Station Agent so that they can retrieve it for you.

所以奉勸各位網友，在網路搜尋英文網站時千萬要當心，台灣英語學習網站的品質參差不齊，萬一不幸遇到上述之流的網站，將彆腳英文當成寶貝，那可是會誤入歧途。
