華人在學習英文時，難免會遇到某些專屬於英文體系的單字，構成學習英文的障礙。根據我個人的經驗，此時最好要用體會的方式來理解這類特殊單字，亦即透過英英字典或英英英漢雙解辭典，以英美人士的角度來學習。

這類詭異的單字不少，現在先舉其中一個來講解。

 Access 的用法:
1. 當名詞時不可數，當動詞時為及物動詞

2. 它有兩個主要的意思：
a. 接近或進入某地方的方式或通路 (means of approaching or entering a place) 
b. 使用某項資源或接近某人的機會或權利 (opportunity or right to use sth or approach sb)

3. 形式：
a. Access to + 名詞或動名詞 (access 為名詞) 
b. Access + 名詞或動名詞 (acess 為動詞)

4. 電腦界常將 access 翻譯成 『擷取』，感覺有點玄，其實就是上述 b. 的用法。

(例句) 
The avalanche cut off the access to the mountain village.
(雪崩切斷了通向山村的道路) ─ a. 的用法

Students must have access to good books.
(學生必須能夠讀到好書) ─ b. 的用法

He has regular and immediate access to the President.
(他能夠經常見到總統，而且想見就能見到) ─ b. 的用法
//馬永成和黃芳彥跟陳水扁的關係就可套用這項句型。

Such an article will find easy access to the columns of the daily press.
(這樣的文章很容易獲得在日報專欄發表的機會) ─ b. 的用法

Professors have free access to the library.
(教授可以自由使用圖書館) ─ b. 的用法

Nick still does not have access to his SolidTrust Pay account. 
(尼可仍然無法使用他的 SolidTrust Pay 帳戶) ─ b. 的用法

You can access your computer files remotely from anywhere.
(你可從任何地方透過遠端連結來讀取你的電腦檔案)

These files are accessed every day to keep them up to date.
(這些檔案每天都被讀取，使其不斷更新)
// them = these files

This problem can be fixed permanently by removing the following files.  All these files will regenerate when the associated system features are accessed.
(將下列檔案移除後便可永久解決這個問題。如果相關的系統功能被擷取，這些檔案都會重新產生。)
