Subject: Platinum vs. Guru

Hey Wayne,

Kyle, a non-guru here.  I know, I know…some people refer to us as gurus, but we prefer not to be associated with this label, nor would we like WA to be branded as a guru-type company.

There are many reasons for this, but before I get into this I would like to give you the definition of a guru (from Wikipedia).

Guru:

Is one who is regarded as having great knowledge, wisdom and authority in a certain area, and who uses it to guide others (teacher). As a principle for the development of consciousness it leads the creation from unreality to reality, from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge. In its purest form this principle manifests on earth as a divine incarnation (saint), a person with supreme knowledge about God and all creation.

In the context of this definition, I guess we could be considered a guru.

We know, we guide, and we help people see the light.

However, the “guru” of the Internet marketing world has a whole different definition by customers.

Too many people have been ripped off by so-called Internet marketing gurus…people who were supposed to have vast knowledge, who are supposed to help you out.

Thus, we do not want to be called gurus. Not in this industry.  People will continue calling us gurus because of the help that we offer and the success we help them achieve (the true meaning of guru), however we will never label ourselves as gurus.

Instead, we would prefer to be facilitators.  Someone that will help guide you there, hold your hand, and show you exactly where to find the light.  We facilitate member success! This term has a much greater meaning to us and is much more appropriate.

◎ refer to … as = 稱呼…

1. refer to … as (主動) / be referred to as (被動)
2. brand … as (主動) / be branded as (被動)
3. consider … (主動) / be considered (被動)
4. call … (主動) / be called (被動)
5. label … as (主動) / be labeled as (被動)
6. regard … as  (主動) / be regarded as (被動)

◎not … nor = 既不 ….

1. Both A and B = A、B
2. Either A or B = A 或者 B
3. Neither A nor B = 既不是 A 也不是 B

◎ There are many reasons for this.

◎ get into this = 深入討論這項話題。

◎ great knowledge, wisdom and authority = 知識淵博、擁有智慧與權威 。

** be the devile incarnate -> 魔鬼的化身

◎… divine incarnation, a person….

Will you have tea or coffee?
geology, or the science of the earth’s crust  – 這裡的 “or” 要翻譯成「或者說」(同位格)

◎ In the context of …
context = circumstances in which something is to be considered

In the context of the present economic crisis it seems unwise to lower taxes.

What a rip-off !

◎ help sb out = 幫助某人擺脫困境 (help sb especially in a difficult situation or a crisis)

◎ because of = 因為。

◎ guide you there, hold your hand, and show you exactly where to find the light = 引領你到成功的地步,牽著你的手,正確告訴你該往何處尋找光明。

So, back to the initial subject of this email, Platinum vs. Guru. What is the difference between how Wealthy Affiliate Platinum works versus anything else out there that a “guru” will offer you?

I have 8 things that completely separate us from anyone else out there:

**Money.  That is right.  Everyone wants more of it, but not everyone approaches this idea in the same way.  Gurus have the concept that if they take money from others, they will have more money in their pocket at the end of the day.

Our concept is that if we help others succeed, if we offer a service that is worth more than it’s weight in gold, and we continue to advance our product offering without charging more, we will have happy customers.  Happy customers equate to long term customers.  Long-term customers naturally equate to more money.

Wealthy Affiliate Platinum is going to create a lot of happy customers and is only going to get better with time.  We are like a fine wine…we just keep on getting better as we age! 🙂  More money to our members in 2009 and onwards!

**Support.  Yes, we offer personal support and we will continue doing this.  We know that a lot of people come to us in the dark and are used to a “lack of support” from gurus.  Frankly, people are utterly in shock when we personally get back to them!  A company owner should not hide behind the Internet!  We do not feel like we are your superior, rather an equal…and this translates to us being an active part of our community and helping our members out personally. Gurus hide behind their low quality support.  We are our support!

**Success.  Our goal is your success, not ours.  We want you to succeed and all the updates we have made within Wealthy Affiliate Platinum include new avenues for success, and avenues to make success that much easier.

With our upcoming improvements, you will be able to earn more right within WA, unlock new avenues and marketing techniques as they take place, and ultimately build much more successful business.  Our training, relationship building, and tool upgrades within WA are all in line with more members earning more commissions.

**Training.  We are going to be offering the most sophisticated Internet marketing program.  One that will grow with the current state of the Internet, one that will reveal new opportunities and ways to achieve success online, and one that will contain the most diverse set of video, tutorial, course and guide based training.

We are going to be targeting all levels of training as well.  Beginner.  Intermediate. Advanced. Product Owner or Affiliate.  Individual or Enterprise. Wealthy Affiliate Platinum is going to become the training center for anyone interested in succeeding online.

WA Platinum training is taking a huge leap into a new world of Web 2.0…gearing up for Web 3.0, which is semantic web.  We are going to be delivering resources that you need before you know that need and we are not going to be increase the cost of membership for this training.  Find a guru that does this!

◎ difference between A and B = A 與 B 的差異
What is the difference between … and …。
A => how Wealthy Affiliate Platinum works (how 連接的子句)
B => anything out there that a guru will offer you (受詞為 anything)

◎ separate A from B = 區分 A 與 B
Tooling-making and language use are the main activities that separate humans from animals.

◎ worth its /one’s weight in gold = 非常有用的;無價的 (extremely useful or helpful; invaluable)
“be worth more than its weight in gold” – 比無價還無價,加起來還是無價的。

◎ equate to = 等同於

◎ be going to get better with time = be going to get better by the day = be going to get better with each passing day

◎ We keep on getting better as we age! =
不能用 “when” 或 “while” 取代,詳細說明請參考『英文專題討論:When, While, As 三者有何差別?(實戰篇:As)』。

◎ in the dark = 毫不知情;不知所措

◎ utterly in shock = 震驚不已

◎ rather = 用來提出更確切的說法 (used to bring up a more precise expresssion)

I worked as a secretary, or rather, a typist.

◎ translate to us being….. and helping…
作者的意思是前述的句子落實後就變成 “being  an active part of our community (積極參與我們的團體)”  與 ” helping our members out personally (親自協助我們的會員)”。

an avenue to success / fame = 成功 (成名) 之路

With only two days to go until the big event, we cant’ afford to relax.

She won’t be able to help us, with all her family commitments.

◎ unlock new avenues and marketing techniques as they take place

◎ be in line with = in accordance with (與…一致)
Our training, relationship building, and tool upgrades within WA are all in line with more members earning more commissions.

◎ be going to be offering…

◎ One that…. , one that…., and one that..

◎ be going to be targeting…

◎ be going to

Look out! We’re going to crash!
I’m going to wet my pants if I don’t take a leak.

I’m going to keep asking her out until she says ‘Yes’.
When are you going to get your hair cut?

I’m going to be a general when I grow up. / I want to be a general when I grow up.

One day in 1996, one of my children came home disillusioned with school. He was bored and tired of studying. “Why should I put time into studying subjects I will never use in real life?” he protested. Without thinking, I responded, “Because if you don’t get good grades, you won’t get into college.” “Regardless of whether I go to college,” he replied, “I’m going to be rich.”

◎ gear up for / to + V = 作好準備
The company is gearing up for the big export drive.

◎ be going to be delivering…

◎ Find a guru that does this!
