版主今天要講解 “complex” 這個極為常用的英文單字。它出現文章時，通常當成形容詞或者名詞，機率各佔一半，平分秋色。

1. complex 當作形容詞 (adjective)

◎ 複雜的；費解的；難以理解或者解釋的 (something that is complex is difficult to explains or understand because it has many different parts)

• the complex structure of the human brain 複雜的人腦結構
• a complex subject 複雜的科目
• Baseball is unqiue because of its obsession with statistics and its rich and complex terminology. - Suite 101.com
  (棒球重視數據，有豐富且複雜的術語，因此獨樹一格。 )

◎ 複合的 (指詞根加有詞綴或主句含有從句) = (grammar) made up of many parts connected closely

• a complex sentence 複合句 (包含從屬子句的句子) = a sentence containing subordinate clauses
  複合句的例子：I ate the meal that John cooked last night.  

 

2. complex 當作名詞 (noun)

◎ 相似或相聯的綜合建物或事物 (a group of buildings or things of a similar type in one place) - 這個意思常用於建築文章

在翻譯這個詞的時候，要從圖片或者內文來判斷正確的中譯，以下是《Google 字典》所舉的英文例句：

• a sports complex 綜合體育場
• an apartment complex 公寓大樓
• an industrial complex(= a site with many factories) 工業建築群

(說明) “multi-venue” 正好說明 “complex” 的特性 (buildings connected together in one place)。

 

◎ 情結 (因為壓抑造成的精神失常狀態) = a metal state that is not normal, which is usually resulted from suppressed desires or unpleasant past experience
