版主前陣子到台中新社的民宿度假，傍晚從山上眺望遠處時，看到山下有許多種菇類的棚子，這讓版主想到以前央求美國同事講有趣的美國俚語時，他所舉的第一個例子：

Mushroom management (香菇管理法) / Mushroom treatment

種植香菇時要把香菇置於暗室 (keep mushrooms in the dark)，還要澆上大便 (feed mushrooms shit)，香菇方能長大。剛好英文有兩種說法對應這種情況：

• (keep sb) in the dark (about sth) = in a state of ignorance 無知
  I was in the dark until she told me. (她沒告訴我之前，我都一無所知。)
• shit = stupid remarks; nonesense 胡說；廢話
  You do talk a load of shit. (你滿口胡說八道)

因此，老美會用 mushroom management / mushroom treatment 來隱喻公司高層隱瞞實情，或者提供模糊資訊，讓基層員工一頭霧水，不知其所以然，也不知從何回應。不過，話說回來，’mushroom management’ 其實是高明的管理哲學。

If they keep you in the dark long enough and feed you enough shit, you can get to be a damn big mushroom!

 

這句話只能私底下說，可別當著老闆的面直接講。網友要是哪一天被人蒙在鼓裡，你就知道自己又被人當成香菇 (mushroom) 囉！
